Goa in October: Weather, Places to Visit & Things to Do
By KindQuest Travel

October is the month when Goa quietly switches gears. The southwest monsoon that soaks the coast from June to September starts to withdraw, paddy fields turn a deep green, beach shacks begin reopening, and the state slowly wakes up for the tourist season ahead. It isn't peak season yet, so you'll find fewer crowds, better hotel rates, and a Goa that feels fresh, green and a little less frantic than the December rush.
Goa Weather in October
October marks the tail end of Goa's monsoon, and the transition is noticeable through the month. The first half can still bring occasional showers and higher humidity, while the last two weeks are usually drier, sunnier and more pleasant.
- Daytime temperature: roughly 29–32°C
- Night-time temperature: around 24–26°C
- Rainfall: about 100–150 mm for the month, mostly short, sharp showers
- Humidity: typically 75–90%, easing by late October
- Sunshine: around 8–9 hours a day by mid-to-late October, with the sea a comfortable 28–29°C
Pack for both sun and the odd shower — light, breathable cotton or linen, swimwear, sunscreen and a hat, plus a compact umbrella or light raincoat. The last week of October is generally the most pleasant stretch for the beach.
Best Places to Visit
North Goa Beaches — Baga, Calangute, Anjuna and Vagator
Baga and Calangute are lively with shacks reopening for the season, Anjuna is known for its laid-back vibe and Wednesday flea market, and Vagator's red cliffs and quieter shoreline are great for sunset views without peak-season crowds.
South Goa Beaches — Palolem, Agonda and Colva
Calmer and greener, suiting October's post-monsoon lushness — Palolem's crescent bay and Agonda's quiet, palm-fringed sand are ideal for a relaxed beach experience.
Old Goa — Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral
These UNESCO World Heritage churches are worth visiting any time of year, but October's cooler, greener surroundings make the walk between them especially pleasant.
Fontainhas, Panaji
Panaji's Latin Quarter, full of narrow lanes, Portuguese-era houses, art galleries and cafés — an easy, walkable half-day to soak in Goa's colonial-era charm.
Dudhsagar Waterfalls
October is one of the best times to see Dudhsagar — still fed by the tail end of the monsoon, but with far more manageable approach roads and jeep tracks than peak rain.
Spice Plantations, Ponda
A working spice plantation visit pairs well with a traditional Goan lunch, and post-monsoon greenery makes the setting especially attractive.
Fort Aguada and Chapora Fort
Both easy half-day trips, especially scenic once the October sky clears — Fort Aguada for its lighthouse and sea views, Chapora for sunset over Vagator beach.
Things to Do
- Watch beach shacks and water sports return — parasailing, jet-skiing and banana boat rides restart around this time.
- Catch the Anjuna Flea Market on Wednesdays.
- Take a Mandovi River cruise in Panaji for live Goan music and sunset views.
- Sample Goan cuisine — fish curry rice, prawn balchão, xacuti and bebinca.
- Go dolphin spotting on a morning boat trip off Sinquerim or Baga.
- Wander Fontainhas' lanes for photography and café-hopping.
Quick Tips
- Book accommodation early in the month for shoulder-season rates.
- Plan outdoor sightseeing for mornings, keeping afternoons flexible for sudden showers.
- Carry a light raincoat, strong sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
- Roads to waterfalls and plantations can be muddy early in the month — wear grippy footwear.
Goa in October offers a sweet spot: the scenery is at its greenest, the sea is warm and swimmable, the crowds haven't arrived yet, and prices are still reasonable.
