Few pilgrimages in India carry the emotional weight of the Dwarka Somnath Yatra. One city holds the legend of Lord Krishna's kingdom by the sea; the other holds Somnath, first among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Together, Dwarka and Somnath form one of Gujarat's most rewarding temple circuits — close enough to cover in five days, rich enough to leave lasting memories.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the ideal window, when coastal heat eases and temple visits, ghat walks and the Somnath sound-and-light show are far more pleasant. Summers (April–June) can be intense along the Saurashtra coast.

How to Reach

Ahmedabad is the most common starting point, well connected by flights and trains, with Dwarka roughly 450 km away by overnight or full-day drive. Both Dwarka and Somnath have their own railway stations, and Diu's airport is useful for travellers combining the yatra with a beach stopover.

Day 1: Arrival in Dwarka

Drive via Jamnagar, stopping at Bala Hanuman Temple and Lakhota Lake, then check into Dwarka by late afternoon. Visit the Dwarkadhish Temple in the evening, timing your visit around the aarti, and walk along Gomti Ghat where diyas float on the water.

Day 2: Dwarka Local Sightseeing

Start with early darshan at Dwarkadhish Temple, then Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, marked by its towering Shiva statue. Take a boat to Bet Dwarka, believed to be Krishna's residential island, then stop at Rukmini Devi Temple and Gopi Talav on the way back.

Day 3: Dwarka to Porbandar to Somnath

Break the journey at Porbandar, Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace — visit Kirti Mandir and Sudama Temple. Continue along the scenic Madhavpur coastal stretch to Somnath, arriving by evening for the temple's sound-and-light show.

Day 4: Somnath Sightseeing
