Delhi to Manali 5-Day Trip Itinerary

Manali is one of the most popular quick escapes from Delhi, and for good reason: five days is just enough time to leave the city behind, settle into mountain air, explore both the town and its surrounding valleys, and get back without feeling rushed.

Getting from Delhi to Manali

The most common option is an overnight Volvo or sleeper bus, roughly 12–14 hours, using a travel night instead of a travel day. Driving yourself gives flexibility to stop along the way, while flying to Kullu's Bhuntar airport followed by a short drive is fastest if your five days are tight.

Day 1: Travel to Manali

Arriving mid-morning after an overnight bus, use the rest of the day to settle in and take a slow walk around Old Manali or Mall Road in the evening — cafes and riverside lanes make for an easy first evening.

Day 2: Explore Manali Town and Nearby Sights

Start at Hadimba Temple inside a quiet cedar forest, then Manu Temple and Old Manali for lunch at a riverside cafe. In the afternoon, visit the Vashisht hot springs, and take a short walk along the Beas River as the light softens.

Day 3: Solang Valley and Atal Tunnel

Solang Valley, about 13 km from Manali, is known for paragliding, zorbing, and winter snow activities. Head toward the Atal Tunnel, one of the world's longest high-altitude tunnels, and continue toward Sissu for a quieter stop if time allows.

Day 4: Kasol and Manikaran Day Trip

A two- to three-hour drive through the scenic Parvati Valley leads to Kasol, known for riverside cafes and a backpacker atmosphere, and Manikaran, home to hot springs and an important Sikh gurudwara. Start early given the longer travel day.

Day 5: Leisure Morning and Return to Delhi

Use the morning for last shopping on Mall Road — Himachali shawls, wooden crafts, local snacks — before beginning the return journey by early afternoon.

Where to Stay

Old Manali suits travellers wanting a quieter, cafe-heavy base near the river, while Manali town near Mall Road works better for market access and easy taxis. Budget guesthouses and hostels are widely available in both.

Tips for a Smooth Trip

  • Book overnight bus or flight at least a couple of weeks ahead in peak season (May–June, December–January).
  • Pack layers regardless of season — mountain evenings stay cool even in summer.
  • Carry cash for smaller cafes and the Kasol-Manikaran trip.
  • Start day trips early to avoid long drives back after dark.
  • Check road conditions before the Atal Tunnel and Solang Valley trip in winter.

Five days gives you just enough time to properly unwind, explore both the town and its surrounding valleys, and take at least one longer day trip without the itinerary feeling rushed.
