Best Road Trips from Delhi Under 500 KM
By KindQuest Travel

There's something about pulling out of Delhi early on a Saturday morning that no flight ticket can replicate. Some of North India's most rewarding destinations sit well within a 500 km radius — close enough to drive there, explore, and be back before Monday's alarm.
1. Agra — 233 km
The Yamuna Expressway makes this a smooth three-and-a-half to four-hour drive, with the Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort's red sandstone ramparts, and a Fatehpur Sikri detour if you have an extra half-day.
2. Jaipur — 280 km
An easy five-hour drive via NH48, rewarding visitors with Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Jantar Mantar, plus some of the best Rajasthani thalis around.
3. Neemrana — 122 km
For a shorter, relaxed drive, the restored 15th-century Neemrana Fort Palace offers zip-lining, infinity pools and Aravalli views — ideal for a one-night staycation.
4. Bharatpur — 180 km
Home to Keoladeo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage bird sanctuary — cycle through the wetlands spotting storks and herons, then combine with nearby Deeg Palace.
5. Chandigarh — 250 km
Wide, tree-lined avenues, Le Corbusier's modernist architecture, the Rock Garden built from industrial waste, and Sukhna Lake for an evening stroll — a largely highway drive on NH44.
6. Rishikesh — 240 km
The gateway to the Himalayas, with Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and the evening Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat worth building an itinerary around.
7. Mussoorie — 290 km
Queen of the Hills, with pine-covered ridges, Kempty Falls, Camel's Back Road and views over the Doon Valley — budget close to seven hours and go early on weekends.
8. Nainital — 320 km
Built around the crescent-shaped Naini Lake, mixing boating, colonial architecture and quieter viewpoints like Naina Peak — a longer haul at seven-plus hours.
9. Jim Corbett National Park — 260 km
India's oldest national park, with tiger sightings, elephant safaris and the Dhikala forest lodge — book safari slots well ahead, especially in peak winter.
10. Mcleodganj — around 480 km
The furthest entry but still within range for a long weekend, home to the Dalai Lama's residence, Tibetan monasteries and Bhagsu Waterfall — a full-day drive best treated as a three- or four-day trip.
Tips for Planning
- Leave before sunrise on Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Agra or Delhi-Dehradun routes to skip city traffic.
- Keep a buffer for dhaba stops — Murthal and Neemrana are classic breakfast halts.
- Check road conditions in monsoon (July–September) for hill destinations.
- Book heritage stays and national park safaris in advance, especially on weekends.
The best part of living around Delhi is that you're never more than a tank of petrol away from Rajasthan's forts, Uttarakhand's wildlife trails, or the first rise of the Himalayas.
